Open sealed cans or bottles yourself, or watch the bartender or server open them
At a bar, accept your drink directly from the bartender or server and watch it being prepared if possible
Avoid communal punch bowls, unattended pitchers, open containers, or drinks with an unclear source
Do not accept a drink carried to you by a stranger
Keep your drink with you and in sight; throw it away and get a new one if you do lose sight of it
Consider using a drink cover as an additional barrier
Be cautious about relying on taste, smell, color, or test strips as many substances may not be detectable
Keep track of how much you consume
If you feel unexpectedly dizzy, confused, extremely drowsy, nauseated, or significantly more impaired than expected, stop drinking and alert a trusted person or staff member immediately
If someone is difficult to wake, breathing abnormally, having a seizure, vomiting while unconscious, or showing other signs of an overdose, call emergency services and stay with them
