I started Soirée Savvy as a high school junior beginning to think about college, understanding that with becoming more independent also comes responsibility for your own safety. So, I began researching how to stay safe in everyday situations such as socializing at parties, taking rideshares, and walking alone, where a little knowledge and preparation can make a meaningful difference. Along the way, I realized that this was information I didn’t want to keep to myself and Soirée Savvy became my way of sharing it.

Before going any further, I want to make it clear that a woman is never to blame for someone else’s decision to harass, assault, or harm her. Nothing she wears, drinks, says, or does makes that behavior her fault, and there is no shame in having experienced it. Responsibility lies with the person who causes harm, and offenders should be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

With that understanding, what you’ll find here is research I’ve compiled from a range of sources to make useful information about personal safety easier to find and understand. Despite the name, this site isn’t just about soirées (although knowing what to do when you’re out at one is definitely part of it), but rather is about being savvy, which means thinking a few steps ahead and having a plan before you need it.

While you can’t anticipate everything, preparation empowers you with knowledge and tools to confidently handle the unexpected when it matters most. Soirée Savvy is about being informed so you don’t have to be afraid. This blog is for anyone heading off to college, already there, or simply navigating the world on their own.

From one young woman to another, I hope what I share here helps you step into your independence with a little more knowledge and a lot more confidence.

Stay Savvy,
Ariana
